26 February 2020 (Correspondents: The inauguration ceremony of Ondo -- Volkswagen Industrial Park in Omotosho district, Ondo State, Nigeria was held. Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari attended and cut the ribbon and opened the park. Governor of Ondo State Akredulu, Governor of Edo State Goodwin Obasegi, Governor of Ogon State Dabo Abioton, federal Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Richard Adebayor and other officials attended the event.
President Buhari thanked the Chinese government and enterprises for their support and assistance to Nigeria's production capacity cooperation, including the construction of industrial parks. He said that the construction of ondo-Volkswagen Industrial Park conforms to the common expectation of cooperation and development between China and Nigeria, and will further promote the implementation of Nigeria's import substitution policy and accelerate the industrialization process of Ondo Prefecture.
Nigeria Volkswagen Industrial Park is a comprehensive park invested and constructed by Shandong Zhongyang Group from Linyi City, Shandong Province, with a planned area of 150 hectares in the first phase. In April 2017, the industrial Park and ondo prefecture government signed a lease contract of 180,000 mu of forest land, and obtained the right to use the forest land for 40 years. In June 2018, Linyi City and Wongdo Prefecture signed a letter of intent for friendly cooperation, shandong Zhongyang Group and Wongdo Prefecture government signed an investment cooperation agreement, the two sides plan to cooperate in the development of petrochemical, pulp, cassava, methanol, dairy processing, beverage and other projects.
As of December 2019, the park has put nearly ten enterprises, including ecological forestry, wood industry, alcohol and pulp, into operation, creating more than 1,000 jobs and driving the economic development of surrounding areas. At the same time, the park has actively participated in public welfare undertakings, including the construction of stadiums for Ondo Prefecture, the implementation of training programs for 1,000 people, and the digging of Wells and water supply for many communities, which have been welcomed and supported by local residents.
Zhu Wei, assistant chairman of Shandong Zhongyang Group and sales director of the park, said that at present the park has realized "three connections and one level", namely water access, electricity access, road access and site leveling, and the supporting facilities are improving day by day, which can meet the needs of enterprises in the park.
